Ahhh… the Joy’s of Hump Day

April 22, 2009

So after two weeks of freelance work, I’m finally back to being unemployed…again.

I guess the cool thing about this whole ordeal is the nice break that comes immediately after working your a$$ off to cover next month’s rent.  Then your phone doesn’t ring for a week and you’re back to panic mode.  Then another week goes by and you wonder if you’ll ever find work again.  Thankfully, I’m on week one…

Well after getting no sleep on Thursday, I’ve been a zombie since.  Saturday morning was a killer, waking up for flag football only to play my worst game of the season.  I actually, slipped and fell flat on my face the first play of the game going to make a tackle.  Then I followed that up by being pretty much a non-factor the rest of the game.  Thank God, we actually have good players on the team…

But, I guess the highlight of the week was that I finally broke through and won, not one, but TWO, mini-tourneys in my home game.  Now I know what you’re thinking, “If this is the highlight of your week then you sir, are pathetic and struggling,” and I’d answer back by saying, “Yes… yes, that is correct,” but you don’t understand how big this was for me.  I actually realized I can WIN.  I haven’t felt that in a long time…especially in poker.

So, what does a big winner do with his money after paying down credit card bills that never seem to end?  He treats himself to an overpriced mediocre breakfast while playing online poker for past two hours only to be down $1.90:

Woke Up on the

I didn’t get any sleep last night.

For the first time, in a long time, I felt uncomfortable sleeping.  I’d close my eyes, but that’s all.  I expected this months ago, but life has a funny way of making you think everything is good.

I’ve felt this before and it always means the same thing…

It’s Been a Long Time…

April 10, 2009

The other day I was reading one of my friends blogs and I realized, “I use to do that.”

So here I am, writing my first post in God knows how long for all the five readers who want to know what the hell I’ve been doing these last four months?  Well besides playing Madden football on my new PS3 (the best Christmas gift ever), or donking off more money playing poker, or watching countless hours of Food Network, HGTV, and my king of networks, Bravo (yeah I know it’s a little gay), I really haven’t done a whole helluva lot — oh, did I mention I got laid off back in early January?  Yeaaaaah, that was a complete surprise.  Having to tell your new intern that, “hey, it was nice knowing you for the two hours you’ve been here, but as of now I don’t work here anymore, soooo… screw you hippie!”  (I love saying that — no idea why)

On the brightside, collecting a $300 check every week from “da man” for sitting on my arse is pretty fun.  Besides, I’ve been paying unemployment tax for so long anyways.  Might as well use it right?  Anywho, so of course I’m lying when I’m saying that I’ve been sitting on my butt this whole time.  The reality is it’s given me plenty of time to focus back on my screenwriting aspirations which haven’t faded completely.  Got back to working on a script that I’ve put off for a while and I’m 50 pgs or so in on the first rewrite.  It’s got it’s moments, but I definitely smell more rewrites to come…

What else…

Still haven’t one a poker tourney in my poker league…  Man, I think I’m down close to $700 this year already 😦

…still don’t have a golf swing although my plan is to get back into it.  I’m tired of sucking when I know (what seems to be centuries ago) I didn’t.  I miss playing “good” golf and therefore that will be one of my goals the rest of this year…

…still love Padma.  Have you seen her knew ad for Hardees/Carl Jr?  She’s sooo hot and I don’t care what she’s selling, I’m buying:

And…

…oh, I’ve given up soda for about a month now for lent.  That’s been pretty killer.  I think it’s made me a bit more sour and cranky these past few weeks, but no worries… come this weekend I’ll be swimming in soda till my belly aches.  That may be the highlight of the week…

well that and celebrating Jesus’s resurrection…
